Ryonths speak Common and Ryonth.
Ryonths encountered may be warriors; half of the information in the statistics block is for a warrior of 1st level.
COMBAT
Ryonths drive their non-bonded slaves to attack first. If the creature being attacked is one the ryonth desires as a mount, it will direct the slaves to render the creature unconscious. Otherwise, the slaves are directed to attack until the creature is slain. If the ryonth is forced into combat, a mounted ryonth will attack with the full abilities of the mount. If unmounted, the ryonth will leap at the opponent, grappling and attempting to bond with the opponent.
Expert Grappler (Ex): Ryonth are considered 1 size category larger for the purposes of grappling.
Dominate Mount (Su): On a successful grapple attempt, a ryonth can attempt to bond with the grappled creature. The creature must make a Will save with a DC equal to the ryonth’s character level. On a failed save, the ryonth bonds with the creature. The creature must be either an animal or a magical beast 1 size category larger than the ryonth, must be solid, possessing an intelligence of 4 or less, and possessing a number of hit dice equal to or less than that of the ryonth. At the end of each hour, the mount may make another Will save with a DC equal to the ryonth’s character level plus the number of hours bonded. A ryonth may bond a number of times per day equal to 1 plus his constitution modifier (minimum 1).
The ryonth can only be removed by an opposed Strength check. The ryonth gets a +1 bonus to the check for each hour bonded. If the ryonth is forcibly removed from the mount, or the mount dies, the ryonth is stunned for a number of rounds equal to the number of hours bonded. In the case of forced removal, the mount is stunned for a number of rounds equal to half the number of hours bonded. If the ryonth willingly detaches, the mount is stunned for a number of rounds equal to the number of rounds bonded. If the ryonth is rendered unconscious, the bond is automatically broken.
A bonded ryonth regains 1/4 the number of hit points restored to the bonded mount. The ryonth does not need to eat, drink, or sleep while bonded. Any mind-affecting effects directed at the mount instead target the ryonth. The ryonth is able to use natural attacks and movement types of the mount. The ryonth does not gain any special attacks, resistances or ability to survive in special conditions (such as underwater) from the mount.
Brittle Skin: A ryonth takes an additional 1 point of damage from slashing attacks.
Electrical Vulnerability: A ryonth incurs a -4 penalty to saves versus electrical attacks, and takes double damage on a failed save.
Gnawing Hunger: An un-bonded ryonth requires twice as much food as a medium-size character.
Unable to Swim: A ryonth is unable to float or swim, and cannot take any ranks in the Swim skill.
Skills: Ryonths receive a +2 racial bonus on Jump and Ride checks. Ride is always a class skill for a ryonth. Ryonths incur a –4 racial penalty on Diplomacy checks.
