Gripping but not Impossible
Gripping Tales of the Impossible: Episode 1 – Requiem in the Depths is a 20 page adventure product by Precis Intermedia for their Two-Fisted Tales pulp roleplaying game. It retails for $5.49 at Precis Intermedia’s website or at Rpgnow. This adventure is the first part of a serial adventure for characters of Fantastic power levels.
This adventure is both the start of an ongoing serial campaign and campaign model for GMs to start their game. Characters in adventure are members of Ajax Stewart’s Troubleshooters. Ajax is a veritable superman of the pulp tales and his services had been in such demand that he’s needed to recruit other exceptional individuals to help solve the world’s problems. The initial four pages of the product provide you with background on key secondary characters who help set-up the plot. They are left stat-less so they don’t become involved in the plot – that’s the player character’s job.
The overall serial plot involves recovering specific items, proving your daring and rescuing the girl. This particular part revolves around finding sunken city of Atlantis, battling deranged cultists, escaping from deep ones and recovering powerful mystical artifacts before rival troubleshooters. There are three scenes to this serial which could consume a gaming night or so (depending on your pacing). There is a distinctive mythos theme to this particular adventure (without the overbearing hopelessness) that can only be intentional. I expect further serials in this series will examine different themes.
The art and maps support the product very well. The editing and layout are first rate. The pacing and writing are strong. If you are looking for a Fantastic adventure for Two-Fisted Tales, then Gripping Tales of the Impossible is an excellent place to start.
